Sappi Job Description

Sappi Tugela Mill based in MandeniKZN, requires an Operator: Relief to assist production in reducing overtime by providing leave/training relief.

This role reports to the Production Foreman

The main responsibilities of this job are:

  • Takes and hands over the shift.
  • Operate process/equipment according to best-operating practices.
  • Complete section specific interventions/initiatives as planned and agreed for all the identified positions for the specific section.
  • Relieves operators and carries out all tasks prescribed for these positions.
  • Assists the Foreman/Operating Staff at breakdowns and in the supervision of staff when necessary.
  • Ensure accurate reporting by recording all incidents in the shift logbook.
  • Reports all breakdowns, faulty equipment to Foreman.
  • Attend progress meetings with the section training representative, line supervisor and/or mentor, coach and act on any remedial action and/or additional requirements.
  • Participates in shift activities (5 why problems solving etc).
  • Understand the SHEQ requirements of the job.
  • Identify and take corrective action in terms of SHEQ conditions and hazards.
  • Comply with all relevant SHEQ requirements.
  • Maintains a high level of good housekeeping in the workplace at all times.
  • Conducts regular BBS Observations.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • N3 Pulp & Paper (4 subjects)
  • 3 months experience as Process Trainee

Sappi Job Description

Sappi Global Business Services requires a Financial Manager General Accounts and Assets to manage the General Ledgers and Asset registers of all South African business units by being able to prepare all reconciliations when required, raising sundry debtors, posting journals, keeping intercompany accounts in balance, and maintaining the asset function.

This role reports to the General Manager Finance – Shared Services.

The main responsibilities of the job are:

General Accounts

  • Assume overall responsibility for all General Ledger reconciliations for all South African business units including reviewing General Ledger reconciliations.
  • Responsible for the implementation of the Reconciliation tool and providing the system design requirements.
  • Coordinate the preparation and timeous processing of journals for all South African business units.
  • Manage the sundry billing process for all units.
  • Manage the process of all intercompany charges and balancing.
  • Manage vendor and customer sensitive master data and liaise with banks relating to bank accounts queries and clearings.

Fixed Assets

  • Project financial reporting.
  • Review monthly detailed tracking of individual project spend for all South African business units.
  • Provide summary information to each cost centre owner per project.
  • Provide project financial information.
  • Provide finance and business unit with the depreciation simulation report.
  • Reconcile monthly project budget vs actual reports and distribute, include released budgets, project actual spend to date, open commitments, available budgets
  • Custodian of all forms in the asset process.
  • Responsible for the Capital Controller role.

Financial Control

  • Approve reallocation of costs booked to operational budgets and later moved to project budgets.
  • Obtain reports from shared services on long outstanding open purchase orders and follow up with project managers on whether the orders are still valid.
  • Manage the fixed assets registers for Sappi Limited and Sappi Southern Africa region.
  • Complete the useful life assessment calculation annually. Forward to financial managers of all units in SSA for feedback.
  • Monitor the release of funds between capex approvals and the project.
  • Sweep unused funds from projects and allocate to SAP Project system.
  • Provide reporting and process impairments of assets on SAP as requested.
  • Manage the depreciation run process and ensure that this is completed for Limited and SSA monthly.
  • Manage the open Assets Under Construction (AUC) process and ensure all open AUC’s are capitalised and closed timeously.
  • Review policies and procedures for fixed assets, forward recommendations to the General Manager and CFO to approve the changes in policy and advise all those concerned. Monitor the compliance thereof.
  • Review asset master changes, to ensure that only the authorised personnel are actioning relevant items.
  • Manage the asset class list to ensure correct financial and tax treatment of all assets created for Sappi Limited and Sappi Southern Africa. Amended list as approved by the CFO should be forwarded to all asset users. Ensure compliance thereof.
  • Manage close off of the assets process and roll forward process of assets for the next financial year, ensuring all general ledger opening balancing and asset net book values are correct.

Support the Development of Business Cases

  • Advise project managers on the correct tax treatment of project expenses.
  • Review capex application submitted on E-Capex.
  • Advise project managers on asset financial best practices.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and basic training to project managers on the sound management of SAP project management.
  • Act as super user and key advisor on systems used by the Project Managers e.g. E-Capex, SAP Assets.

General

  • Develop, coach and train and General Accounts and Asset team.
  • Ensure all General Ledger and Asset procedures are up to date.
  • Present improvements to management in relation to new systems and technology.
  • Ensure compliance to set standards e.g. SIN (Sappi Internal Control) framework, segregation of duties.
  • Review systems for efficiency (SAP Assets, E-Capex), and make recommendations thereof.
  • Complete all General Ledger reconciliations by deadline dates.
  • Ensure that the sundry billing process is completed monthly.
  • Sign off the intercompany process each month.
  • Approve consignment stock recons monthly.
  • Prepare SIN controls.
  • Ensure all depreciation runs and asset reconciliations are completed for the month.
  • Ensure all assets are capitalised timeously and procedures aligned with policies.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Finance Honours or Postgraduate in Finance
  • 5 years relevant financial experience, with 2 years in a management position
  • Proficiency in MS Office, SAP, General Accounts and Fixed Assets

Sappi Job Description

The main responsibilities of this job are:

  • Assists in stacking charcoal, filling charcoal into the charcoal bin and feeding charcoal into reactor when required
  • Removal and bagging of soda ash spillages
  • Monitor soda ash rejects screen – remove and bag lumps
  • Assists reactor operator to unblock/rod reactor discharge
  • Assists during reactor/evaporator shut/breakdowns – removal and cleaning of scrubber saddles and surge sprays, cleaning of reactor internals, freeboard sprays and ducts,
  • Load Soda Ash Trucks and ensure Soda Ash truck is correctly loaded and the weight of the truck is within the limit and is recorded properly in the book
  • Operate Soda Ash offloading conveyor and chutes, preventing spillages of Soda Ash
  • Operate Forklifts to remove Soda Ash bags once filled and stack them neatly
  • Adheres to safety regulations and the use of safety equipment as supplied for the tasks mentioned above
  • Helps where ever required when requested by the Production Foreman eg. during shuts, blockages in the process
  • Carries out any other duties/tasks as requested by supervision
  • Adhere to environmental policy and procedures including
  • Reduces waste and prevents spills
  • Meets environmental targets that apply to his sphere of influence
  • Complies with hazardous chemical handling procedure and environmental legal requirements

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT & QUALITY (SHEQ)

  • Understand & comply with all SHEQ requirements of the job.
