Your job

  • Part of the financial and regulatory reporting team, responsible for the completion/submission of and assistance with:
  • Monthly, quarterly and annual submissions to the Prudential Authority and SARB.
  • Group reporting of quarterly numbers including actuals and forecast
  • Preparation of actual, forecast and planning trial balances
  • ORSSA submission
  • Board and audit committee presentations
  • Preparation of the AFS
  • Assistance with the audit and various audit queries

Your profile

  • Newly qualified CA (SA) (advantageous)
  • Experience in insurance/reinsurance accounting environment (advantageous)
  • Finance related degree/diploma with work experience
  • Excellent  communication and interpersonal skills
  • Very strong excel skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Quick learner and able to work independently
  • IFRS17 experience advantageous

Your job

The incumbent of this role steers and provides operational leadership of the reinsurance accounting and claims handling team by overseeing the portfolios within the RMOC.

S/he drives projects and initiatives related to process improvement and simplification initiatives (within the business unit and across different business units and interfaces) and Quality Assurance (QA).

  • Supervision and active steering of the team in order to deliver on key operational performance targets
  • Coaching and training of staff members and provision of training and other value-added services to external clients
  • Facilitating cross-functional interactions and inter-departmental collaboration
  • Special topics owner
  • Monitoring reinsurance accounts submissions, ageing reports, losses reports and other KPIs
  • Reporting on operational and tactical matters
  • Performing quality control reviews and ensuring excellent data quality within the technical ledgers
  • Ensuring that internal control systems and procedures are relevant and operating in an efficient manner
  • Proactively driving in RIA consulting and other value-add initiatives
  • Ensuring consistency of account settlement and claims handling in the unit
  • Systematically implementing process simplification and optimisation
  • Ensuring, keeping track of and further developing active portfolio management as per the QA guidelines
  • Proactively monitoring key performance indicators (overdue balances, unmatched cash, etc.) for the portfolio/markets responsible
  • Preparing and performing accounting reviews at external clients’ place

Your profile

  • Graduate (for example in finance, accounting, insurance, business, mathematics, law, etc.) or completed professional insurance or accounting qualifications and relevant professional experience
  • Excellent knowledge of insurance, reinsurance and general accounting
  • Advanced MS Excel and IT skills
  • Knowledge of clients/market/industry
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Solution-oriented, structured and creative in thought and action, as a role model for the team
  • Assume responsibility
